Changes to Artwork Classification

We’re introducing changes to our artwork classifications and mediums to give collectors more clarity and context. Starting December 22, 2020, there will be new artwork classifications available for artworks which all new artworks will be required to use. 

We will add the following new classifications:

• Limited Edition. This means the edition run has ended; the number of works produced is known and included in the listing.
• Open Edition. This means the edition run is ongoing; new works are still being produced. Please note, open edition works can still be numbered. This classification includes made-to-order works.
• Unknown Edition. The edition run has ended; it is unclear how many works were produced.

We will add the following medium types:

• Ephemera or Merchandise. This reflects items related to the artist, created or manufactured for a specific or limited use. This also includes exhibition materials, memorabilia, autographs,  skateboards, toys, and other items made with branded collaborators, etc.
• Reproduction. Reproduction of an original work authorized by the artist, the artist's studio or estate. Artist involvement is not implicit. 

We will also be removing these classifications:

• Made to Order. 
• Ephemera
• Non-editioned Multiple
• Editioned Multiple
• Reproduction

On January 12, 2021 we will migrate works to new classifications. Any artworks that still have the old classifications will be migrated to a new classification according to the logic below. You are free to modify artworks within the new definitions before or after the migration.
