This guide will walk you through adding an artist bio to your gallery profile page. This is referring to the section "Written Biography".
Please note the addition of Artist Bios is a benefit of a year-long subscription on Artsy. If you are a fair partner, you will not have the ability to add an Artist Bio at this time.
We recommend using a word processor or text editor (like Google docs) to write your bios. This makes it easier to edit the bios and allows you to simply copy and paste the text into your CMS.
In CMS, choose the artist whose bio you’d like to upload, and click “edit.”
In some cases, Artsy may have already created a bio for your artist. If you’d like to add your own, toggle to “no.” In this case, the Artsy bio will display on the canonical artist’s page, whereas the bio you provide will display on your profile page, as well as any works by that artist from your inventory.
Now, simply paste your bio into the free text field. You have 2,000 characters (we recommend using only around 1,000). Accept the terms, hit “save changes,” and you’re done! Your bio will now appear live on your Gallery's Artsy profile page.
Note: In some cases, your gallery's artist bio will also appear on the canonical artist page. If the artist bio on the main artist page is out of date or contains incorrect information, please reach out to your account representative to submit the biography for review.
We have recently added partner-submitted artist bios to hundreds of artist pages that had no bio previously, providing valuable context to our artist pages to help users. Having artist bios on these pages provides further context and boosts the search rankings for these pages, driving more traffic for galleries. We will use bios submitted by the gallery that has indicated that they represent the artist. When more than one gallery represents an artist, we will use whichever bio our internal processes indicate will drive more sessions to the Artist page. Only partner submitted artist bios that meet the following criteria will be considered:
- It must be in English
- It must use the artist's name at least once
- It cannot be copy and pasted in whole from another source, for instance, a gallery website.
Certain popular artists will continue to have artist bios written by Artsy's team. You can continue to update your own artist bio on your gallery page as normal.
