Note: If you’re a partner based in one of these countries, adding your VAT status to CMS allows you to use Buy Now, Make Offer, and Make Offer in Inquiries to sell your works to payment-verified collectors.
This guide will show you how to add your VAT status to Artsy CMS, a requirement for using secure checkout selling options.
After you've added your VAT status, Artsy will follow up with any necessary next steps, which are described below. Once you have completed the process for adding your VAT status, Artsy will approve for Buy Now and Make Offer selling options when they become available in your area (if they aren’t already). This generally takes a business day.
To add your VAT status to CMS, go to your account settings under the Account tab.

Click the “Edit” button on the upper right of the gallery information section of the page.

At the bottom of the page, you’ll be asked about your VAT status. Select the answer that applies best to you.

If you click “Yes” or “Yes, but I am exempt from collecting VAT,” you’ll be asked to provide your VAT number.

Once you’re done, click “Save Changes.”
You can use Buy Now, Make Offer, and Make Offer in Inquiries if you select “Yes” and add your VAT number. If you select one of the following, you will be asked to verify your VAT exempt status before using the above checkout options:
- “Yes, but I am exempt from collecting VAT”
- “No, I have not met the threshold requiring VAT collection”
- “No, I am exempt from collecting VAT”
You may initiate the verification process by contacting verification@artsy.net. This process will require you to submit documents from your tax authority, accountant, or legal representative, demonstrating your VAT status, as well as proof of qualifying business entity.
To learn more about enabling Buy Now, Make Offer, or Make Offer in Inquiries, review our guide for Getting Started with Secure Checkout.
Note: The VAT Registration number is intended to be displayed, due to EU & UK compliance reasons. This is standard practice for third party platforms.
