This article outlines the different ways to display artwork pricing information on Artsy.
Note: “Contact for price” hidden pricing option and setting your own price range options on artworks is only available on the Plus, Premier, and VIP marketplace plans.
When uploading an artwork to your Artsy CMS, it is necessary to add complete metadata in order for the work to be saved and published. An important element of metadata is artwork pricing and availability information.
Availability
There are four artwork availability options within Artsy CMS:
- For Sale
- On Hold
- Sold
- On Loan
Whichever availability status is chosen, Artsy collectors will be able to contact the gallery from the artwork page.
Note: Essentials plan galleries must list works as either "For Sale" or "Sold."
Pricing information is required for all For Sale artworks. Enter a single numerical value and then choose one of the following display options:
- Display Exact Price on Artsy
- Display Price Range on Artsy
- Display ‘Contact for Price’ on Artsy
As pricing information is mandatory on all artworks for sale (regardless of your subscription plan), the "Publish" artwork button is not accessible until a price is saved.

Exact Price
Choosing "Display Exact Price" will publish the exact pricing information on the front end of the Artsy site. We recommend exact pricing wherever possible. Works with exact pricing have proven to have a higher rate of sale than those without.
Price Range
If you choose "Display Price Range," you will be able to set your own minimum and maximum visible price ranges. There are the following guidelines to set price ranges:
- The entered price range must contain the artwork's price.
- Price range must be within 50% of your artwork price.
- If the minimum and maximum fields are left blank, the work will automatically be placed into one of Artsy’s pre-determined price buckets based on the original, single value entered (see below for these brackets).
The Artsy-set price range buckets are as follows. Please note that in the case of Artsy's pre-determined price buckets, an artwork with a value on the intersection of two ranges will be placed in the lower of the two ranges. Thus, a work priced at $5,000 will be placed in the $2,500 - $5,000 range. A work priced at $5,001 will be placed in the $5,000 - $7,500 range.
Depending on the currency the artwork is listed in, there may be a multiplier applied that slightly changes them, to ensure the best user experience:
- Under $1,000
- $1,000 - $2,500
- $2,500 - $5,000
- $5,000 - $7,500
- $7,500 - $10,000
- $10,000 - $15,000
- $15,000 - $20,000
- $20,000 - $30,000
- $30,000 - $40,000
- $40,000 - $50,000
- $50,000 - $75,000
- $75,000 - $100,000
- $100,000 - $150,000
- $150,000 - $200,000
- $200,000 - $300,000
- $300,000 - $400,000
- $400,000 - $500,000
- $500,000 - $750,000
- $750,000 - $1,000,000
- $1,000,000 - $1,500,000
- $1,500,000 - $2,000,000
- $2,000,000 - $3,000,000
- $3,000,000 - $4,000,000,
- $4,000,000 - $5,000,000
- $5,000,000 - $7,500,000
- $7,500,000 - $10,000,000
- Over $10,000,000.
"Contact for Price"
Finally, choosing "Display 'Contact for Price'" will hide all pricing information from users on the front end of the site. The work will still register as "For Sale," there will be no indication of artwork price on the front end of Artsy. However, works with hidden pricing are still eligible to appear in targeted price searches. Thus, if a user is searching for an artwork between $2,000 - $4,000 and your work is priced at $3,000, it will appear in the user’s search results even if visibility is set to “Display ‘Contact for Price.’”
