All Artsy sellers are responsible for filing their own income tax returns with the IRS, and Artsy does not assume any liability or offer tax advice related to filings. If you have any questions about how your Artsy sales impact your income tax returns, please contact a tax professional.
Will Artsy issue 1099s for 2022?
No. As nearly all Artsy transactions are processed using our third party payment processor, Artsy is not required to issue 1099s for U.S. sellers.
How do I access my 1099-form?
You can export your 1099-K forms from the Documents section of your Stripe Dashboard.
I did not receive a 1099-K form from Stripe. Why?
It’s likely that Stripe is not required to issue you one. On December 23rd, the IRS announced that the 1099-K filing threshold will remain at $20,000 USD and 200 transactions for tax year 2022. If you believe you require a 1099-K form, please speak with your accountant and contact Stripe’s customer service team.
How do I calculate my net sales?
Like most payment processors, Stripe reports gross sales as inclusive of:
- Stripe processing and conversion fees
- Shipping fees
- Taxes
- Refunded charges
- All adjustments
You will need to deduct any applicable sums from your gross sales volume to calculate your net volume. This information is accessible via the confirmation emails you receive from Artsy, as well as via your stripe dashboard.
You can see the information on Stripe by:
- Logging into your Stripe account
- Navigate to "Dashboard payments: All transactions". You can filter "charges" that were "available on" 2022 using this link: https://dashboard.stripe.com/balance?created%5Bgte%5D=1577232000&available_on%5Bgte%5D=1577232000&available_on%5Blte%5D=1609459199&type=charge
- In the upper-right corner, select export
- Open the .csv file in your spreadsheet viewer
- Exclude any transactions that weren't "available on" during the year you're reconciling.
